Young At Heart is the story of a lyricist named Alex Burke (Gig Young) who, through solicited interest, enters the daily goings-on of the Tuttle family of musicians. Soon, each of the three Tuttle daughters becomes romantically interested in Alex. Burke eventually relents to the advances of Laurie Tuttle (Doris Day), the one who seems most obviously matched to his personality. However, their love connection grows complicated when another man, Barney Sloan (Frank Sinatra) enters the home and falls in love with Laurie. In fact, Barney successfully steals Laurie’s affection from Alex; yet, despite doing so, continues a personality trend of depression and self-destruction. These negative tendencies result in an evening decision to kill himself by driving into traffic during a snowstorm with his headlights off. The accident, though, leaves him alive, and with a newfound appreciation for life, and a renewed confidence he finds in the arms of Laurie Tuttle.
